Maui is known for being an incredible destination for nature lovers. One of the main natural attractions on the island is waterfalls. The best way to see an abundance of Maui waterfalls is to travel on the Hana Highway. This 60 miles of highway winds through lush rainforest with over 18 waterfalls along the way. After a day of sightseeing, return to one of our beautiful oceanfront rentals at Epic Realty. It would be impossible to see all the waterfalls along the Hana Highway in one day, so we have created a list of the five best waterfalls in Maui.
Twin Falls
The Hana Highway begins with Twin Falls around mile marker two. The lower falls are located near the entrance and are easily accessible. If you are willing to hike a bit further, you can get to Caveman Falls from here as well.
Waikani Falls
Located just beyond mile marker 19 are the Waikani Falls. Also known as Three Bears, because of the three separate parallel falls. Waikani Falls cascades from a height of 70 feet; this awe-inspiring waterfall is a must-see. If you are in a hurry to continue along Hana Highway, you can get an exceptional view of Waikani Falls from the bridge above it. Or you can choose to hike to the falls if you want a closer look.
Hanawi Falls
Located after mile marker 24 is the Hanawi Falls, cascading from a height of over 200 feet! One of the best spots to view this fall is from Hanawi Stream’s bridge. Adventurous hearts can also trek down for a closer look and brave an icy swim in the pool under the falls. The surrounding rainforest makes Hanawi Falls truly one of the best.
Wailua Falls
Travel just past mile marker 45 to see Wailua Falls. Cascading 80 feet down a lush jungle wall, Wailua Falls is an easily accessible waterfall. These falls are easily visible from the road, with ample parking. Wailua Falls is the perfect place for a quick stop with incredible views.
Pools of ‘Ohe’o
Located ten miles south of mile marker 42 are the Pools of ‘Ohe’o. Although technically past the Hana Highway, this is definitely worth the extra drive. Here you’ll see magnificent tiered pools fed by waterfalls. The accessible pools are an excellent opportunity for swimming and cliff jumping. Pools of ‘Ohe’o are located in Haleakala National Park, which has much more to explore if you find yourself wanting to see more!
