Do you love the beach? Do you love history? If you answered yes to both of these questions, then you have come to the right place. Maui is world-renowned for its beaches, but it is also home to some of the most interesting history in the country. Maui historical sites can be found all over the island, but the best place to learn about the past is in Lahaina. Lahaina was once home to royalty and the capital of the Hawaiian Islands for over 50 years. Today you can see over 60 historic sites in Lahaina, remnants of a once-thriving whaling port and plantation settlement.

At Epic Realty, we have properties located just a few blocks away from historic Lahaina town at Aina Nalu condos. We also have over 60 condos within a 10-15 minute drive from Lahaina at several Maui resorts. Our properties offer luxury and excellent amenities while being conveniently located near historic Front Street. Come and join us in Maui and vacation like the royalty of the past in Lahaina.

Lahaina Historic Walking Tour

Spend an afternoon exploring Maui historical sites on a self-guided Lahaina Historic Walking Tour. Start on the corner of Front and Dickenson streets just down the road from your Maui condo rental. From ancient sites of Polynesian settlers to the oldest lighthouse in Hawaii, Lahaina is full of fascinating history. There are dozens of stops on this walking tour, but we will highlight a few of the must-stop locations below.

  • The Baldwin Home Museum: The first stop on the list is the oldest house still standing in Maui. The home was occupied by missionary Revered Baldwin who served as a medical doctor for the local community.
  • The Old Lahaina Lighthouse: This is the oldest lighthouse in Hawaii and has been guiding vessels to the shores of Lahaina for almost two centuries. Discover Lahaina’s significant history as a whaling port when you visit this Maui historical site.
  • Banyan Tree: The largest banyan tree in the United States can be found right here in Lahaina. The tree was imported from India in 1873 and planted in front of the courthouse. Today the tree stands more than 60 feet high and has 46 major trunks. We recommend anyone visiting the area stop at Lahaina Banyan Court Park and stand under the shade of this gigantic tree.
