Awe-Inspiring Maui Waterfalls Along Hana Highway

Photo of One of the Best Waterfalls in MauiMaui is known for being an incredible destination for nature lovers. One of the main natural attractions on the island is waterfalls. The best way to see an abundance of Maui waterfalls is to travel on the Hana Highway. This 60 miles of highway winds through lush rainforest with over 18 waterfalls along the way. After a day of sightseeing, return to one of our beautiful oceanfront rentals at Epic Realty. It would be impossible to see all the waterfalls along the Hana Highway in one day, so we have created a list of the five best waterfalls in Maui.

Twin Falls

The Hana Highway begins with Twin Falls around mile marker two. The lower falls are located near the entrance and are easily accessible. If you are willing to hike a bit further, you can get to Caveman Falls from here as well.

Waikani Falls

Located just beyond mile marker 19 are the Waikani Falls. Also known as Three Bears, because of the three separate parallel falls. Waikani Falls cascades from a height of 70 feet; this awe-inspiring waterfall is a must-see. If you are in a hurry to continue along Hana Highway, you can get an exceptional view of Waikani Falls from the bridge above it. Or you can choose to hike to the falls if you want a closer look.

Hanawi Falls

Located after mile marker 24 is the Hanawi Falls, cascading from a height of over 200 feet! One of the best spots to view this fall is from Hanawi Stream’s bridge. Adventurous hearts can also trek down for a closer look and brave an icy swim in the pool under the falls. The surrounding rainforest makes Hanawi Falls truly one of the best.

Wailua Falls

Travel just past mile marker 45 to see Wailua Falls. Cascading 80 feet down a lush jungle wall, Wailua Falls is an easily accessible waterfall. These falls are easily visible from the road, with ample parking. Wailua Falls is the perfect place for a quick stop with incredible views.

Pools of ‘Ohe’o

Located ten miles south of mile marker 42 are the Pools of ‘Ohe’o. Although technically past the Hana Highway, this is definitely worth the extra drive. Here you’ll see magnificent tiered pools fed by waterfalls. The accessible pools are an excellent opportunity for swimming and cliff jumping. Pools of ‘Ohe’o are located in Haleakala National Park, which has much more to explore if you find yourself wanting to see more!

An awe-inspiring view of the ocean. Going to the beach is one of the most popular things to do in Lahaina.

Whether you’ve never been to Maui or have visited numerous times, it never hurts to have a plan. As much as we can appreciate the laissez-faire approach to vacationing, many seasoned travelers will say there are clear advantages to creating a fluid itinerary, at the very least. Now, it’s understandable that many people come to Hawaii to avoid making plans, schedules, and agendas, but the last thing you want is the feeling of regret when you realize you missed out on some fun activities. As such, you’ll want to become familiar with the unique opportunities available at your choice getaway destination. That’s why we at Epic Realty LLC have put together a quick guide to things to do in Lahaina, one of Maui’s most beautiful communities.

Lahaina, Maui Activities | Beaches, Eateries, and More

Whether you’re a nature lover, history buff, foodie, or fashionista, there are plenty of things to do in Lahaina. Even if you don’t describe yourself as anything other than someone seeking an immersive and unforgettable experience, we’re confident you’ll find what you’re looking for no matter how you spend your time. In addition to the sheer beauty found at every turn, our beloved city is home to an abundance of unique activities and cultural elements, and we would love to share them with you.

Visit Lahaina’s Best Nearby Beaches

Two vacationers wade near the shoreline of a beautiful Maui beach.A remarkable aspect of Lahaina is there seems to be everything there is to love about Maui close by, and the beaches are no exception! A few of the more prominent coastal recreation areas are  Kaanapali Beach, Napili Bay, , and Honolua Bay. And although they are technically outside of Lahaina, you’ll find the short commute is well worth the trip depending on where you’re on the island.

Old Lahaina Luau

Conveniently located just off the Honoapiilani Highway, Old Lahaina Luau is an excellent place to immerse yourself in Hawaiian culture. Starting with a fresh flower lei greeting, you’ll enjoy tropical refreshments, an authentic five-course dinner, and an award-winning hula demonstration rife with musical and artistic jubilation. Be sure to check out their current menu before making a reservation.

Kapalua Coastal Trail

The Kapalua Coastal Trail is a one-way corridor that stretches along the coast from Kapalua Bay to D.T. Fleming Beach Park. To say the scenery is breathtaking feels like an understatement, but it’s genuinely the best way to describe it. Consisting of lush tropical flora, black lava geology, and white sand beaches, the Kapalua Coastal Trail is a hike you won’t soon forget.

Banyan Court Park

Banyan Court Park is a Lahaina staple you shouldn’t ignore. With humble beginnings as a tiny seedling, the local mainstay was a gift from missionaries in India. Since being planted in 1873, this living relic has grown to be almost 60 feet tall and is the biggest banyan tree in Hawaii.

Lahaina Front Street

Unsurprisingly, many of the things to do in Lahaina reside on one of its busiest pedestrian thoroughfares. Lahaina’s Front Street is where you’ll find many restaurants, taverns, gift shops, apparel, craft stores, and jewelry dealers. And because of Lahaina’s status on the National Register of Historic places, you’ll find several historical sites, many of which retain their original architecture. A Lahaina Historic Walking Tour is a must for anyone interested in the city’s cultural legacy.

A Friendly Reminder to Our Guests

Thanks to a reduction in COVID-19 travel restrictions, Hawaii is experiencing a noticeable influx of visitors. Please be aware that wait times at the airport, car rental centers, and activity desks will be longer than usual. We highly recommend that you reserve rental cars and vacation activities well in advance. The same can be said for restaurants to ensure the most enjoyable experience possible.

A stunning view of the Ho'okipa Beach Park in Maui.

Known as one of the most popular recreational hotspots in Maui, Ho’okipa Beach Park is an incredible place that graciously provides hours of outdoor fun for those who visit. Located about an hour from Lahaina, this stunning white sand waterfront is home to some of Hawaii’s best waves. Although surfing is one of the prime attractions found at Ho’okipa Beach, there are plenty of other recreational activities for those not ready to “hang ten” with the wave warriors. Further adding to the allure of a Maui Vacation in Lahaina, Epic Realty has an astonishing assortment of Maui vacation rentals that will provide relatively easy access to one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. To help give you an idea of what to expect, we’ll share a bit of information to help you decide how to spend your time at Ho’okipa Beach Park.

Things to Do at Ho’okipa Beach Park

Surfing seems always to dominate the discussion of possible recreational activities at Ho’okipa Beach, but there’s something for everyone on this little sliver of paradise. For example, like its wave-powered predecessor, windsurfing is a seemingly less intimidating water sport that is slowly gaining on traditional surfing in terms of popularity. Another relative to surfing, paddleboarding, is a more laid-back activity that is enjoyable for anyone willing to learn. Finally, if wind and regular surfing aren’t extreme enough for you, there’s always kiteboarding. Now you might be thinking, “What if I just want to hang out at the beach?” Fear not, leisure seekers! There is plenty of open space for soaking up the sun, swimming, barbeques, wildlife and landscape photography, and beach games—among other activities. Reach out to Ohana Sports to find out about beach rental delivery.

Maui Vacations in Lahaina, Hawaii

For example, you can spend the entire day at Ho’okipa Beach Park, and after, take a scenic drive back to your vacation home to rest up for your next outing. With so many excellent places to visit and things to do, it’s no wonder that Epic Realty helps so many people find the perfect Maui vacation rentals year after year.
