Where to Find the Best Maui Seafood Restaurants

Photo of fish tacos: a popular Maui seafood itemThere is more to Maui’s tropical paradise than the world-famous beaches. Looking beyond the picturesque coastline, Maui is the type of place where culture and tradition thrive. Much of this culture revolves around the island’s culinary heritage which is rooted in freshly caught seafood from the Pacific. Today, Maui seafood restaurants are a staple on the island serving classics like mahi-mahi and ahi. Discover seafood in Lahaina when you stay at Epic Realty, or make a short drive to the nearby communities of Paia or Kihei. Dine on freshly caught seafood and enjoy the diverse flavors of the island during your next getaway with us!

Mama’s Fish House, Paia

Mama’s Fish House has been a Maui tradition for almost 50 years and a long-time favorite amongst locals and visitors alike. It all starts with freshly caught Maui seafood and produce grown by local farmers. Every menu item is made fresh with delicious ingredients and seasonal flavors. Enjoy the oceanfront views as you choose from ahi, sashimi, octopus, Antarctic toothfish, Pacific salmon, mahi-mahi, or lobster on the menu.

Coconut’s Fish Cafe, Kihei

Coconut’s Fish Cafe offers a laid back family-friendly seafood restaurant on Maui. They are known for their famous fish tacos made with fresh cuts of mahi-mahi and ono. They focus on healthy menu items for meals you can feel good about eating! If you are not interested in the tacos, you can choose from grilled fish sandwiches, grilled fish on brown rice, or coconut shrimp and chips.

Kimo’s Maui, Lahaina

Kimo’s has something for everyone in Lahaina. They have been serving Hawaiian cuisine for over 40 years, accompanied by crafty cocktails, live music, and incredible ocean views. Their menu of fresh fish rotates with the season and is prepared in various ways, from pan-seared to grilled. Don’t forget to get the famous Hula Pie for dessert made with delicious macadamia nut ice cream, cookie crust, and chocolate fudge!

Down the Hatch, Lahaina

Photo of a person stargazing on Maui at Haleakala National ParkThroughout history, the night sky has always inspired wonder and awe. But, today, stargazing is not as simple as looking up since light pollution has severely impacted how many of us see the sky. However, there are still places seemingly untouched by this pollution, providing a crystal clear view of the cosmos. Stargazing on Maui is some of the best in the world due to its isolated location, high elevation, and low light pollution. Whether you are looking for the best stargazing spots on the island or want to join a guided tour, you’ve come to the right place!

Our Lahaina condo rentals at Epic Realty are approximately an hour and a half drive away from the best stargazing on the island at Haleakala National Park.

Haleakala National Park

Haleakala National Park offers the best stargazing on Maui from the summit of a volcano. The summit is 10,000 feet above sea level, so it feels like you are face to face with the Milky Way! One of the most important observatory sites is located here, even though it is not open to the general public. Spend your days at the beach and then witness the awe-inspiring dark skies at Haleakala for the perfect end to any day on Maui.

Maui Stargazing Tour

Join the Maui Stargazing tour at the Haleakala Summit and observe nebulae, star clusters, and galaxies with a local expert. Before the stars emerge, your tour will start with a spectacular sunset at the summit. You will then get a 60-minute tour of the cosmos with a portable telescope. Your expert astronomer will help you survey the constellations and witness deep-sky objects. This tour is a one-of-a-kind experience that is not to be missed!

The Maui Stargazing tour meets at the Kula Lodge parking lot.

Stargazing on Maui Tips

If you are interested in stargazing at Haleakala on your own, we have a few tips and tricks for you. Here are a few of our recommendations to make the most out of your Maui stargazing experience:

  • Many people do not realize how cold Haleakala Summit can get at night. We recommend dressing warmly in coats, hats, and long pants.
  • Many people bring snacks and something to sit on since there are no amenities for these things in the park.
  • Telescopes can be an expensive investment, so we recommend bringing a pair of binoculars as a cheaper alternative.
  • Bring a star map or download an app to help you navigate the night sky.
  • Keep your phone and flashlights off while stargazing! Your eyes will not fully adjust to the darkness if you look at white lights.
  • Have fun and respect the surrounding environment and local wildlife!

Photo of beaches and water at Waiʻānapanapa State ParkImagine black sand beaches with dramatic coastal views and lush forest trails that highlight remnants of ancient cultures. This place exists at Waiʻānapanapa State Park on the diverse and picturesque island of Maui. Waiʻānapanapa, which means “glistening waters,” is a nature lovers’ dream that offers incredible hiking, sightseeing, history, and fishing. This Maui state park is over two hours from our Epic Realty properties in Lahaina, but the drive is worth it! The splendor of Waiʻānapanapa State Park is something you have to see for yourself; here are a few things you can’t miss!

Waiʻānapanapa State Park Guide for Visitors

Before you head to Waiʻānapanapa State Park, make sure to book your reservation up to two weeks in advance. All visitors must have a parking voucher before entering the state park. This is an effort to protect this unique environment from overuse and overcrowding. After your reservation is in place, you will be free to explore everything this Maui state park has to offer!

Pa’iloa Beach

Waiʻānapanapa is most known for the black sand lava field of Pa’iloa Beach. The contrast between the black sand, blue water, and the surrounding greenery is genuinely breathtaking. On the east side of the beach, you will find an ocean cave to explore.

Lava Tube

Maui is home to many volcanoes that leave lava tubes like the one found at Waiʻānapanapa State Park. Hike the popular Kipapa Trail, also known as the North King’s Trail, to find the lava tube and snap some memorable pictures.

Fishing

There are several spots along the beach to cast your line for fantastic fishing. Some of the most popular fish caught here include snapper, ulnar, and sea bass. Bring your own gear and spend an afternoon fishing at this beautiful state park.

Hiking & History

All of the hiking trails are interconnected, so you can plan a hike as short or long as you would like. There are two main trails to take heading north or south on the King’s Trail. Besides being full of natural beauty, the park is also home to fascinating history and ancient ruins. Ancient Hawaiians once occupied Waiʻānapanapa, and more than 30 sites remain here today, offering a glimpse into the past. Many of these sites remain unprotected, so please remember to be respectful on the trails.

  • Pi’lani Trail: This route that dates back to the 15th century will take you south on the King’s Trail through Hala forests and historic sites. You will see a pictograph, ruins of an ancient Hawaiian temple, and burial grounds.
  • Kipapa Trail: This trail can be found on the North end of the black sand beach. Hike this trail past a burial site, two black rock coves, a blowhole, a lava tube, and more ancient ruins.

Photo of whale watching on Maui one of the best activities for a warm winter vacationIt doesn’t take long to get tired of driving through winter snowstorms and hibernating from cold weather. That is why so many people living in colder climates seek out warm destinations during the winter months. If you are looking to escape the cold, there is no better place for a warm winter vacation than Maui. On Maui, the sun warms the sand year-round, vegetation is lush on the hiking trails, and thousands of humpback whales migrate to our waters. So, if you want a break from snowy days, stay with us at Epic Realty and discover everything our beautiful island has to offer this winter.

Whale Watching

The whale watching season on Maui lasts between November-May, but the peak runs between February and March. Thousands of humpback whales migrate from Alaska to Maui’s warm and shallow waters. You can spot whales from the beach, but tours are the best way to get up close and personal with these fascinating marine mammals.

Choose one of the tours with Teralani and experience the humpback whales in their natural habitat with a Marine Naturalist. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about these gentle giants as you listen to their enchanting song with the underwater hydrophone. Hula Girl offers a sunset whale watch tour where you can learn about these marine mammals accompanied by picturesque views and a delicious dinner. Whale watching is one of our favorite ways to kick off a warm winter vacation on Maui.

West Maui Beaches

No vacation to Maui is complete without spending time on the beach. The West Maui beaches remain beautiful and warm year-round. Ka’anapali Beach is an excellent spot for lounging in the sand, swimming, or snorkeling. If you are traveling on a family vacation, then Baby Beach is a perfect choice if you want calm waters and a laid back atmosphere. Winter also brings some of the best surfing on Maui, so if you love to surf or want to try this water sport for the first time head to Launiupoko Beach Park

Outdoor Exploration

Since the average winter temperatures on Maui are around 75 degrees, you can explore the outdoors year-round here. The closest you will get to winter scenery is the light dusting of snow on the summit of Haleakala. But, most of the time, Haleakala National Park remains open for exploration with hiking, horseback riding, ziplining, and helicopter tours.

Visiting the waterfalls along Hana Highway is a popular activity year-round. Since we are prone to flooding during the winter months, it is best to visit the waterfalls with experienced guides who know the area.
